Remember those days when TV was a novel invention and people used to gather around the radio to listen to various news and shows instead? Ever since then, if there’s one type of program that has always captured people’s imagination, it is game shows.
From kids to adults, no one dares move away from the TV screen when their favorite game show is being telecast. But change is inevitable and with time, it is only natural that even a popular, long-running game show is replaced by something newer and better. That being said, some shows are just too special to be easily forgotten.
Can you think of a few game shows from history that people still remember?
#1 - “Supermarket Sweep”
Walking up and down the aisles in the supermarket, have you ever wondered out loud, "I wish I could grab all the stuff for free today?" If yes, you would love “Supermarket Sweep.” The whole idea of this show was to give shoppers a chance to toss whatever they could into their carts in a limited time period and by the end of the show, whatever they had in their cart was given to them for free. Yes! You could throw anything in your cart, absolutely anything!!
#2 - “Press Your Luck”
Wouldn't it be amazing if you could win a lot of cash or awesome prizes just by answering a few simple questions? Well, that was the whole idea behind creating the show “Press Your Luck.” Contestants had to answer various trivia questions, and if answered correctly, they would earn the chance to ‘press their luck,’ which essentially meant randomly landing on an 18-space game board via a spin to win cash and prizes.
#3 - “Beat the Clock”
To all those who claim they are extremely fast at solving problems or can think quickly on their feet, this game was the easiest way to showcase said talent. It gave contestants small tasks, which they had to complete in a minute's time. Those who were successful in completing these challenges got a chance to earn special prizes while those who failed were sent them home.
#4 - “Match Game”
One of the funniest shows of all time, “Match Game” had a unique format wherein contestants had to match the panelist's answers and in return, they won oodles of cash. The twist in this game was the panelists’ reactions to questions, which were just inimitable.
#5 - “Legends of the Hidden Temple”
A family show in a true sense, “Legends of the Hidden Temple” showed children running up and down a faux temple solving every problem that came their way. The team that solved all of the problems and brought back the artifact would end up winning the game, while others were escorted out of the temple by a guard.
Wasn’t that fun?
Though there were many game shows that left an impression on us, each and every one of us had that one special game that held a special place in our hearts. Do tell us which one did just that for you, and don’t forget to mention why.
