What can you do to protect the planet? Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, is on a mission to save Mother Earth by tapping on brilliant minds to help further champion this cause and awarding these exceptional talents by the end of 2022.
Starting 2021 and through the Earshot Prize campaign that will extend until 2030, the Royal Foundation has been honoring individuals who have innovative ideas regarding battling climate change in a bid to create a network of environmentalists from around the globe.
In 2021, five winners went home with $1.3 million each, and along with the finalists, they continue to receive mentoring to hone their ideas further to help rebuild our planet. Speaking about the first set of Prize winners, Prince William noted that this proves that there are brilliant and unique solutions to the environment’s most pressing issues.

As per People, the Duke also sees this campaign as a way to recognize notable individuals and inspire others that there is hope for the future of the younger generations.
Nomination Process
The nomination is ongoing until March 4, 2022, and then a thorough and rigorous assessment will happen. The foundation will also prioritize solutions offered by women and indigenous people.
After the initial screening, the organizers will come up with a list of 30 people for selection. Then a group of judges, including Costa Rica’s Christiana Figueres, singer Shakira, and the esteemed Sir David Attenborough, will select five winners.
Prince William’s Firm Stance on Environmentalism
Prince William has always been firm on protecting and saving what’s left of the natural world. In October 2021, the Duke urged business people to focus on the environment rather than heading to space, asking them to repair what we have and not trying to find the next habitable land.

The royal family member might be alluding to entrepreneurs who are in a race to go to space. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, considered the wealthiest man globally, Tesla and SpaceX boss Elon Musk, and Virgin Group magnate Richard Branson are busy not just expanding their business but also heading to space.

Prince William underlined the occurrence of “climate anxiety” that the youth has been experiencing, explaining that the young ones’ futures are threatened because of the destruction of the environment. He then asked the adults to release their “inner child” and recall how it felt to be outdoors and understand how today’s kids may not experience this in the future because of what’s happening.
