Everyone has heard of Elon Musk, especially after his recent successes with regard to space exploration and space travel. He is a billionaire, entrepreneur, and CEO-Founder of Tesla Motors. Despite being born in a wealthy home, he still managed to create his own empire by relying on innovation and sustainability. What many may not know, however, is that he attended university to pursue a career in video game development. As is evident by now, he left it behind for something much greater.
If you are interested in knowing more about Elon Musk, here are some of his accomplishments that you might not know about (and one that you definitely do!).
1. Tesla
In recent years, the world has cozied up to the idea of owning Tesla cars and so, these vehicles can be seen almost everywhere. They are constantly being upgraded for a more sustainable and safe transporting system, however, the motivational factor behind the development of Tesla came from Musk’s dislike towards the use of fossil fuel. His initial models came out with the hefty price tag of $80k but as the world began to change its narrative on reusable energy, so did Tesla. Now the cheapest model of Tesla can be bought for as little as $31k.

2. Gigafactories
Yet another effort by Elon Musk to normalize sustainable energy is his idea of Gigafactories which work to create lithium-ion batteries that are installed in Tesla vehicles. Tesla was able to benefit from these factories as they helped cut the production costs by 30% and this mass production of batteries also means that electric vehicles are now becoming more and more common. The first Gigafactory was built and made operational in Nevada and the company plans on building many more such factories in the coming decades.

3. SpaceX
Elon Musk is tired of global warming and is seeking a better life for the human race on planet Earth. It is because of this reason that he founded SpaceX which is basically the alternative fallback in case planet Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future.
Although it was started in 2002, development has only picked up pace in recent years and Musk has since been very open of his plans of colonizing and making a habitat out of Mars–and it looks like he just might be able to pull it off. SpaceX is working to improve accessibility and promote the commercialization of space travel. Who knows? Maybe in a few years, you’ll be taking SpaceX flights to Mars.
