China is one of the most noteworthy of the Asian countries, be it for its natural beauty, its unique and ancient civilization, or its political ideologies or international relations. One can never ignore China, especially when it comes to ecotourism and biodiversity.
China boasts some of the most exotic animals, birds, and fish, and is also home to a number of endangered species. Here are four of the most noteworthy provinces of China and what they have to offer to Eco tourists.
Heilongjiang
Heilongjiang is located on the north-eastern side of China. The area is known to be home to the most exotic feline creatures, namely the Amur leopards and the Siberian tigers, inhabiting the Heilongjiang mountains. Other exotic animals you can easily spot while roaming around this Chinese province are mustelids, chipmunks, and finches. Although a small number of tigers were found in the Heilongjiang province a few years back, the number is steadily increasing.
Fujian
Located in the southwestern part of China, the province of Fujian is home to the famous Wuyi Mountains. Sprawled along the Jiangxi border, the mountain range has been featured as a UNESCO World Heritage since 1999. The Confucian temples and the variety of animals found in Fujian are its distinguishing features. The province is home to a number of species, such as the South China tiger, the Chinese giant salamander, and the clouded leopard.
Hainan
Hainan is China’s southernmost province, and is a hot tourist spot, thanks to its beautiful beaches and luxury hotels. Tourists interested in exotic animals and marine life also find plenty to enjoy in Hainan. Sanya, a city south of Hainan, is the ideal place for tourists interested in marine life, where they can snorkel with native dolphins. In the west of Hainan is the Bawangling National Nature Reserve which is home to a critically endangered species of ape, the Hainan black crested gibbon.
Yunnan
Saving the best for the last, Yunnan is the undisputed winner of the ecotourism industry in China. With a capital called the City of Eternal Spring, green and lush forests, and tall mountains, Yunnan is definitely the most beautiful of the Chinese provinces. The Gaoligong mountains located east along the border of Myanmar, these Yunnani mountains are home to some iconic and most treasured Asian mammals, as well as the red pandas, leopards, gibbons and pangolins. Bird watchers also find this province a heaven for their interest–they can find more than 500 different kinds of birds across the Yunnan birds preserve.
